Abingdon 251 4.3%
abv: 4.3%
Dark & Malty
Dark Brown with hints of plum flavour from the UK sourced Phoenix hops and US sourced Columbus and Bravo hops.
Abingdon 251 – our monthly Ale for May and November
It's a Mild.
'Whoah there Loose Cannon – isn't that an Old man's drink?' I hear you say.
Well, no. At least not ours anyway. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find a murky pint of 'Old Fracknasty's Badger Baiter' skulking around somewhere in the world of Milds but you know us, we look at things in a different way.
As for the name – well quite a few of you should have already worked this one out, if you haven't then please by all means drop by and we'll be happy to enlighten you – you can try the new monthly brew too alongside some of our other award winning ales and feel the love. Ours is a skilful blend of UK and US hops, we've kicked the ABV up a notch and slammed in some juicy flavours with hints of plum to change the worlds perception of this much-maligned brew. Abingdon 251 will appeal to all the new ale drinkers as well as the seasoned veterans. It may be dark but we're sure many who would normally resist such a brew will soon see the light.
Anyway while we're typing here what's wrong with being an Old man? OK you may be a little bit slower and the hearing might be on the fritz, but taking your time over something and filtering out all the nonsense the world throws at you can only be a good thing. With age comes great wisdom and an appreciation of the better things in life. You know what you like and you know how to get it. In a power cut you can still cope, you know how to get the most out of the food in your cupboard and you can repair things. Now far be it from me to suggest that the youth of today are without the necessary skills to cope with such things but have you seen 'Ex on the Beach' yet? Makes my toes curl. Men do not need to moisturise and the shorts they wear should always be loose. Its all about the plums y'see.

The Coaster, a type of fishing vessel, was used extensively by Cornish fishermen in the last century. Cornish Coaster pays tribute to all those down the centuries who have bravely plied their trade around Cornwall's rugged coastline.
At 3.6% abv and with a generous measure of refreshing flavour and light golden hue, Cornish Coaster is the perfect drink to quench the thirst on a hot summer day.
Head Brewer, Stuart Howe, says “Ask any brewer and they will tell you that it is very easy to brew big bold strong beers with attention-grabbing attributes but to make a lower strength beer with true character and depth of flavour poses a much greater challenge. I like to think Coaster does this as well as any session beer I know”.
An all malt grist, loads of beautiful English hops and a classic open fermentation give Coaster the ability to impress the unaccustomed and to delight the regular drinker every time. Coaster is wonderfully flavoursome and highly popular with our customers.

Legend has it, NASA engineers coined the phrase “A-OK” for radio transmission tests as the sharper sound of “A” cut through the static better than “O”. This seems a fitting story to accompany our fresh, full flavoured tribute to modern American IPAs. The addition of US hops give this A-OK IPA a tropical fruit explosion with a sharp, bitter finish that should cut through the most static of palates.

Amber & Hoppy
This is a hoppy, aromatic amber ale. Tan colour with a coarse head, this beer has reasonable malt and controlled sweetness, with most of the flavour coming from the bittering and aroma hops. According to the site, Challenger and Northdown were used. I'm a little surprised that they produced this as a January seasonal beer, I would have expected something bigger and stronger. That being said, this beer has a very impressive depth of flavour for a beer at only 3.8%, with the hops blending well into the rest of the profile. I only wish this was available all year round.

abv: 4.4%
Brown & Malty
Sharp's Own (occasionally known as Sharp's Original) was the first beer ever brewed commercially at Sharp's Brewery, gyle no. 00001 in July 1994. It's almost a family heirloom to us!
Own contains the highest percentage of roasted malted barley of all our beers and as a result is our darkest brew. The judicious use of special malts gives Own its characteristic rich brown colour, delicious aroma and moreish depth of flavour. Simpson's finest Crystal and Roasted malts are used to give caramel and roast notes to the beer.
Generous amounts of special malts sometimes result in sweet and cloying beers but in Own late hopping with Northdown hops lifts the beer and balances the caramel sweetness. Add to this Sharps' warm fermentation in open Cornish squares and the result is the holy trinity of malt, hops and fruit in perfect harmony.
Own features sweet roasted notes and is very full in the mouth making it the perfect partner for a cheeseboard. It goes particularly well with strong blue cheeses like stilton. Sharp's Own is also well suited to use in or accompanying beef or game stews or pies.
