When you look for a traditional village pub, you are absolutely right here. This place, located in the very middle of beautiful Burford, right on the main street, provides it all: historic guest rooms, nicely decorated, nice bar, and a great range of beverages. The selection of food is wide as well, ranging from traditional pub food including snacks to normal dishes. But whatever you will go for: you will have a great time in the Cotswold Arms in Burford.

Sat outside and watched the world go by.
We each had a Tuna Mayo sandwich on granary bread. The food is spot on. Roughly £20 for 2 sandwiches, a pint of Strongbow and a small glass of Pinot Grigio. Not cheap but not stupidly expensive. It is on Burford High St after all.
Inside, it's a proper English pub. Dark wood chairs and tables.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
If all pubs in England were like this, we wouldn't have so many closing down.
Thanks for the superb food and drinks.
Great Village Pub

Lovely pub, food excellent

The service was excellent, with food and drink being brought to the table. We had a starter of bread and olives with a fantastic balsamic dip. This was service with two ciabatta rolls each and would serve as a light meal in itself. For our main courses we had vegetable lasagne, rump steak and the locally produced burger. All were excellent with the burger being of particular note - produced by the local butcher it was huge and very tasty.
justifiably world famous

We ate here on Fathers Day as a table of 11 and could not have wished for more. The food, service and surroundings were fantastic. Our order arrived quickly and all the meals were fab. They were very accomodating for my Mother in Law who has digestive issues so can't eat certain things and just wanted a plain chicken breast roast which wasn't something on the menu but they did it for her no questions asked, she also like extra boiling water with her pot of tea and that was done for her also and remembered without asking next time she had one! The staff are friendly, chatty and will help in anyway they can. Plus the steaks are to die for. This is a wonderful country pub with excellent atmosphere. It's somewhere you need to go!!!

Met up with family yesterday lunch time to celebrate a birthday. Large table of us including children. We were served by the landlord and our order was taken very quickly. Food arrived promptly and was fantastic!!! Between us we had an assortment of roast dinners, steaks, pasta and even one full English!! The food was delicious, this was proven by all the empty plates which were collected very soon after we had all finished eating. I would recommend everyone to try this place if you are out for the day or merely passing through.
A very welcoming and homely environment topped off with fast, fantastic service and delicious food!!! A++++++++
Busy restaurant but nothing too much trouble for the staff

We visited last week and had a fantastic lunch. We ordered an array of food, burgers, lasagna, fish and chip, all tasted amazingly and portions were generous which made us very happy! To top all that off the price was extremely reasonable too. A must if in the area!

Having fought our way through several coachloads of tourists! we adjourned to the Cotswold Arms to find an extensive menu and very friendly staff. Food was excllent and good value in such a 'tourist trap'. A joy to visit in this hectic world, even the cat seemed to purr a welcome!

We happened on this place whilst staying for a couple of nights in Burford. We did go to another place that claimed to be full even though there were no reserved signs on the tables and very few people in there and we are so pleased that they didn't want our custom as the meal we had in the Cotswold arms was excellent! The service was efficient and very friendly, food was very good value, plenty of it, excellent ingredients and very well cooked. We will return......probably tomorrow! Thank you for the lovely warm welcome.
Not sure which beer we had such was the variety on offer - was either Artful Dodger or Village Idiot
-review by Deltablade on TripAdvisor
Happened on this pub whilst driving thru' Burford en route to Lower Slaughter. Looked attractive from the outside and we were not disappointed. Bar staff made eye contact on entering (always a sign of a good hostelry) and we were found a table within 5 minutes. Not sure which beer we had such was the variety on offer - was either Artful Dodger or Village Idiot I think - but it was superb. Few PHs really know how to keep beer properly ..this one definitely does! We had two huge torpedo-shaped rolls packed to the gills with filling ..the only slight disappointment was that the chips were a tad undercooked. Good to find a friendly atmospheric pub with a home cooked grub and missing that awful cold corporate feel you get in many watering holes ..this is a real gem!
We always eat here when visiting Burford

-review by L-PS030655 on Trip Advisor
Got the location on route home from New Year bash in Stratford with a dog who also needs a break. Friendly welcome, very nervous that my fussy husband ordered a steak but very delighted when it turned up - chunky, excellent quality meat, cooked perfectly - and my ploughman's was made all the more delicious with the home made bread (my fussy bit). Travelling that way with dogs? a must
The service was excellent. All good. Go there. Now.

After facing the masses on Burford high street shopping wise, we were faced with plenty of choice for eating and drinking. Thankfully we chose the Cotswold Arms. A warm greeting upon entering always stands one in good stead. We were seated immediately and shown menus.
The food arrived swiftly. The food whilst only being fish and chips was probably the best we have eaten in some while. The service was excellent. All good. Go there. Now.
All through our stay the staff were both friendly and attentive

We visited the Cotswold Arms on a busy Saturday afternoon in December. As we walked through the door we were immediately welcomed and shown to a table, given menu's and offered a drink. My wife and I were just looking for a simple meal to tide us over to dinner. We were served promptly and the food - a simple sandwich and chips came with a some fresh salad.
All through our stay the staff were both friendly and attentive, given how busy the place was this level of service was impressive. Would go again without hesitation.

This is a pub on the high street in Burford. We wanted to eat around 6 pm and all the main hotels start serving food at 7 pm and the others stop by 6 pm. We were told to try this pub by another hotel and went there. Friday was steak night and we had 8 oz. rump steak with all the trimmings and it came to £9.50 each. There were other choices. The service was good- with a smile.Food was done to perfection.Bearing in mind it was a pub, it was very satisfactory.

Got to admit this was the first pub we met as we walked up the high street. It is dog friendly with good food good service and an excellent atmosphere. Couldn't fault it, the bar area was just refurbished and very clean. If you want a real English pub in a chocolate box town then this pub must be a first choice.

Lovely supper. We knew there was entertainment on and planned to only stay for a couple of songs. The performer was so good and we had so much fun with the bartender and other guests we stayed until close. We got up and sang and danced and had a OUSTANDING time. Very intimate, comfortable setting. We highly recommend!

We had dinner at the Cotswold Arms on a Sunday break in Burford. Their food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff was kind and very attentive, which is a bit rare in pubs usually. We didn't have any alcoholic drinks so I cannot say anything about the drinks being served there. Acceptable prices too.

An adhoc evening started with a drink here ready to move on to eat. As the evening prgressed 5 became 6 then 7 then 9 to eat! Not many places can suddenly manage an influx of than number so we tentatively asked if there was room. After a short pause for thought we were informed that with a quick rearrangement of tables room could be made! Suffice to say we had a great meal, wonderful food and good value! Everyone was impressed with their meals and commented that they would return again - and we will!

A few times a year we visit Burford and the Cotswold Arms is a restaurant that is always on our list of "places to eat". Typical British food and pub atmosphere, huge choice and generous portions. Lots of vegetarian choices as well and honest prices. The deserts are MUST TRIES.

We had a lovely meal at the Cotswold Arms on a Saturday evening in January. There's a nice log fire in the bar section and a general cosy feeling. The food was delicious - we had vegetarian chilli with basmati rice and tortilla chips and homemade burger and chips. Offered way more vegetarian choice than anywhere else in Burford - which tends to concentrate on traditional English meat dishes. Nice staff and service and reasonable prices. Dessert looked lovely but we were unfortunately too full to try it!
Thankyou Kizzy and all of your staff for a wonderful New Years Eve.

I visited to the Cotswold Arms with my family (including my five month old nephew in a buggy) yesterday. This is my first posting on Trip advisor, but was so impressed by the ambience of the place, the excellent service provided by the (two) staff and the quality of the food that I felt compelled to do so. We had a variety of meals, Toad in the Hole (with delicious local sausages), steaks, vegetarian lasagne and chilli all of which was served promptly considering that the pub was full with drinkers and diners. Okay, it's not Cordon Bleu, but it was fantastic pub grub, for a reasonable price served with the warmth and welcome we wanted. We are all looking forward to visiting again when it's a bit warmer and making use of the pub garden.
The pub is easy to spot at the bottom of the High Street because of its beautiful collection of hanging baskets and tubs.

When you meet an old friend and share an embrace it gives you a warm feeling inside, and when you visit The Cotswold Arms you get that very same feeling. Proprietors Kizzy and Chris ensure all customers are given the friendliest of welcomes, and their team are always more than happy to help, whether it’s to draw your attention to the variety of daily specials on offer, or to help you choose from the selection of wines available by both the glass and bottle. They also serve quality real ales from local breweries, including Hook Norton and White Horse. The menu gets better year-on-year and features dishes made using free-range meat from Foxbury Farm. Don’t miss the steak night every Friday, which offers cuts such as rump, rib-eye, sirloin, fillet and T-bone.
The pub is easy to spot at the bottom of the High Street because of its beautiful collection of hanging baskets and tubs. It also boasts a top-notch beer garden, offering plenty of space, lots of tables, spots in which to enjoy both shade and sun, a beautiful waterfall and stunning roses. Make sure you keep an eye out for the pub’s cats too. The Cotswold Arms is simply a great food-and-drink pub for anyone and everyone to enjoy – make sure you leave plenty of time to experience all it has to offer
